Brendan began teaching in 2009, after almost a decade in the corporate world. His Australian experience includes working as a secondary English teacher and Teacher Librarian at a private Catholic college, as well as teaching adult international students at a vocational education center. Internationally, he has taught secondary English Literature and History in Singapore under their Foreign Teacher Program, as well as teaching general English in Vietnam.

In 2016, he made Malaysia his home, bringing his love of books and varied life experience to the students at Lorna Whiston.

Adam is from Virginia, USA and has taught English in Asia for eight years. He began his journey in Tokyo, Japan in 2011 before joining Lorna Whiston Singapore for five years.

Adam is strongly devoted to the ideals of English instruction and cross-cultural communication. He believes adamantly in the classroom being an open environment for students to share their ideas and opinions without judgement. He believes this to be the best way for students to remain engaged and grow in their language skills. He is very excited to be joining Lorna Whiston Malaysia!

Amy is originally from South Africa and has eight years’ experience in Language Education. Her passion for stories, storytelling and the English language led her to complete her Undergraduate and Honours degrees in English and Language Practice respectively.

Amy believes that every child should be enticed into the magical worlds of reading, storytelling and performance in order to develop their language abilities and life skills.

Since qualifying, Clare has taught in a range of schools and educational settings such as state and private schools, language schools and charity organisations. She has over 7 years’ experience of teaching from the ages of 3 up to adults aged 21. Highlights include her role as the Head of Drama, managing the creation of a new drama department in a brand-new school from 2011 – 2014.

Clare thoroughly enjoys the variety and opportunities that teaching offers to support students from an array of different backgrounds and countries. Her students quickly catch her enthusiasm for Speech & Drama, and encourages them to be fluent, effective, and confident communicators.

Katie has been teaching English to children and adults since 2011. Her experience spans three continents and includes the countries Brazil, Ecuador, the United States and Malaysia.

Joining Lorna Whiston after many years of experience at a variety of different schools in Johor and Kuala Lumpur, Katie brings to the table a unique perspective on education in the country, as well as a variety of techniques she hopes will build confidence and motivate her students.

Laura has extensive experience of living and working overseas, entering the teaching profession after several years in journalism. Her six years of teaching have included working with young learners in Thailand, through a US humanitarian aid programme, and in Egypt, where she taught high school students. Further experience in a university in Colorado, USA, as an adjunct professor teaching copy editing, added to the wealth of experience which she brings to Lorna Whiston.

Laura enjoys fostering the curiosity of young learners and developing a strong rapport with her students.

Qasim is a British artist, writer and educator from Manchester. His most recent post was as the Head of Drama at an international school. He facilitates individual and group creative expressions through text and performance to offer meaningful ways of making memories and sharing stories.

As an artistic director and mentor at youth theatres, Qasim has fostered creativity in young people through spoken word, poetry and prose. His own work has been internationally exhibited and featured on the British Council’s Theatre and Dance network which promotes the best of UK performing arts.

Core to his teaching practice is developing confidence, imagination and aesthetic appreciation in his learners. Ideas of empowerment through the collective and the individual voice are pivotal to his student-centred approach in exploring speech and drama.

Samia began her career as an English teacher in 2007 in South Korea and has since then gained extensive experience teaching language and literature to primary, secondary and adult students from a variety of countries and backgrounds. She spent some time freelancing as a writer and editor, and teaching in Camodia.

After moving back to South Africa, she co-facilitated an educational outreach project and was a Senior English as a Foreign Language (EFL) Teacher.

In 2017, Samia joined the Lorna Whiston team in Malaysia, bringing her love and passion for writing and education with her!

Sandra had a bilingual upbringing in English and German and has always been very passionate about languages and language learning. She began her career in education in 2006 when she taught adults and children in Germany. Here, she gained a lot of experience leading private and group language classes in order to prepare them for school exams, university and business.

After spending five years as a team manager at a prominent bank in England, Sandra made the move to Malaysia. Sandra joined the Lorna Whiston team in 2017. As a nurturing educator, she extends her passion for English to her students.

Yvonne has over fourteen years of experience working with children in schools in England where she has performed multiple roles. Since moving to Malaysia in 2010, Yvonne has acquired extensive skills and experience educating children as well as adults.

Yvonne is passionate about teaching and strives to create a classroom environment conducive to learning, so students can be actively involved and enjoy what they are being taught.
